Firm History
McCurdy & Candler was formed in 1951 by the late
Julius A. McCurdy and the late Scott Candler, Jr. In
1955 the firm name was changed to McCurdy, Candler and
Harris with the addition of J. Robin Harris as a partner.
The firm name reverted to McCurdy & Candler in 1974
when Mr. Harris became President and later Chairman
of Decatur Federal Savings and Loan Association, a long-time
and major client of the firm prior to its merger with
First Union National Bank.
McCurdy & Candler, LLC conducts a general business
practice law firm with an emphasis in real estate
and mortgage banking law. Aside from traditional services
such as civil litigation, corporate law, estate planning
and probate, and business transactions, the firm conducts
a comprehensive mortgage default practice (from foreclosure
to REO closings, as well as title curative services)
for its clients throughout the entire states of Georgia
and Tennessee. The Firm maintains an "AV" rating
in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory. Our attorneys
not only maintain the minimum continuing legal education
requirements of bar membership, but each attorney
also attends mortgage banking, business and real
estate related conferences and seminars to keep on
top of current trends and developments in the law.
Members of the firm are frequent speakers in their
fields of practice, active leaders in local and state
bar associations and active participants and leaders
in civic and governmental organizations.
